Stratford Caldecott wrote Beauty for Truth’s Sake – On the Re-enchantment of Education and I hope that someday a gathering may be held of people who resonate with his ideas and hope to ‘re-enchant education’ at whatever level they serve. Rather than a group of ‘education professionals,’ this is, in my mind, a group of Catholics vitally interested in their own and others’ education. They may be parents, evangelists, school teachers, autodidacts, priests, lay persons, college professors, authors, and artists (in fact, wouldn’t we want all those groups represented??).
We (now I’m dreaming of being there with you, whoever you are) would not be sorted by age or any other category, but would bring whatever variations we possess to contribute toward a collaborative conversation. I’m watching Second Spring, Caldecott’s network of like-minded souls, continuing to be served and connected by the work of his widow, Leonie, to see if something like what I imagine happens through their Second Spring Journal and relationships among them. Whenever, however, if-ever this happens, I want to be there!
Let me know if you loved Stratford’s books, as I did, or if you’re interested in this idea, or if the phrase ‘enchanted education’ brings different ideas to mind for you. What are you longing for??? I would truly, actually, really love to know!
