SAW 6: Realization & Holograms
How can I see others ‘in 3-D’?
First, I must understand that a person is way beyond my grasp, by comprehension, my seeing or knowing, When I realize that my encounter with a person gives me access only to a fraction of his whole being, I start with humility before him.
What I can perceive about him does register with me as factual, objective data, and I must resist the temptation to label him, file the data for future reference, and consider this knowing-of-information about hi a full and sufficient basis for understanding, serving, judging or interacting with him. (This corresponds to the ‘object beam’ in the crafting of holograms.)
I’ve only seen him in a flat, stark way, and must love him to see what else is true. (This corresponds to the ‘reference beam’, for hologram fans.)
Finally, until I allow the Holy Spirit entrance to shed divine light on the image I have formed, combining facts and impressions and a heartfelt sense of this person’s greatness and beauty, I have not seen him ‘in 3-D’. Naturally, my apprehension of anyone else can never be sufficient for his full dimensionality. Only God has a capacity like that! But we can develop greater capacity to take in the being of other persons, so we should try.
How does a ‘veil’ help me see a person better?
A veil over a face is a visible reminder that this person is a mystery, not to be revealed fully without investment in love, trust-building, mutuality, and intimacy.
We can veil our own gaze of a person by looking through Christ’s love for them, taking care not to objectify and label them, protecting their privacy and dignity (even if they have no concern for it).
The idea of the veil is that we will see more truly when we realize how little we actually are seeing.
