I write, speak, invest, network, and question to stimulate fruitful conversation. Let's talk about human flourishing! It begins with freedom. Holy leisure is the key to human being, freedom and generativity. Please join me in the adventure of realizing Christ!
Love, With Blood
This poem moves in two directions: from love, rising and from love, descending.
The first speaks of the way God made a vessel for himself out of real human beings – families, tribes, the Israelites – knitted together by blood, heritage, tradition. In history, this rising tide of human community gave place to Christ, Incarnate in the Virgin Mary. In reality, His Presence continues to raise humanity through His people, whose boundaries permeate death in a unity of Church Militant, Suffering and Triumphant.
We know, in our own families, the reality that we are united with our loved ones in a “braid of being” that is untouched by death. As we rise toward Love, we approach also the beloved persons who await us in His keeping.
Such is love, with blood in it.
The Love that stoops to raise us – that first loved so that we could participate in love – descends. It weeps out like mother’s milk, pours like Divine Mercy, rains down like grace to help us through life, toward our eternal destiny. From the Cross, Christ leads us even through the ‘salted earth’ of our own substance sacrificed, and the seeming negation of our own deaths.
Such is Love, with blood.
Love, With Blood
There is a love
with blood in it –
a heartfelt bond,
a heritage,
a braid of being
twisted over time;
a common pulse,
a rising tide
that overflows
toward destiny
through death.
There is a love
with blood in it –
poured out as milk
through breast and wound;
weeped, seeped, and oozed,
salting the earth
with sacrifice;
it condescends to lead
through death,
toward destiny.
