I write, speak, invest, network, and question to stimulate fruitful conversation. Let's talk about human flourishing! It begins with freedom. Holy leisure is the key to human being, freedom and generativity. Please join me in the adventure of realizing Christ!
Hallowed Be This Ground
Catherine De Hueck Doherty’s Apostolic Farming is the perfect stocking stuffer for the farmer, or farmer-wannabe, organic gardener, sustainable agriculture buff, or nature-lover in your life. It’s tiny, but so chock full of beauty and wisdom it deserves to be read very slowly. I suggest it as a stocking stuffer so that you’ll have time to read while looking at seed catalogs during the winter.
Here are just a couple of the many passages I loved:
This farm was born out of a dream of mine. When I say ‘dream,’ I mean thoughts that pass back and forth from my heart to my mind and then return back to my heart, to lie there quietly until the hand of God touches them and revives them, and brings them forth for me to pray about. Then the cycle from the heart to the mind and back begins again. I call these my ‘dreams dreamt in the Lord,’ because they are for his purposes. When I say I dream in the Lord and for the Lord, I simply mean that I dream of serving God in others. To me, whoever is in love with God must incarnate or live out their love immediately.
…if a daily task is seen as a burdensome chore, forced upon us, as it were, this isn’t a Christian approach. The farmer hasn’t chores to do; he has a whole world to save by feeding the pigs.
Dreaming in the Lord….a world to save by feeding the pigs…there’s more where that came from!
